When Dreams Cross Oceans and Become Reality

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) completed its first raise boring operation in over 15 years at Shaft No. 3 in Chililabombwe. And they did it with TUMI, carrying a machine designed and built in Peru to the heart of Africa. This isn’t just a technical win. It’s proof that we can go farther. That we can lead —not follow. Raise boring is more than a method. It’s a statement: That safety matters. That efficiency is non-negotiable. The future of mining isn’t written in spreadsheets —it’s carved in rock with courage. I want to thank the entire TUMI team —and especially Marc Blattner— for walking this road when it was still full of doubts, for daring to plant a Peruvian flag where no one else had tried. Opening an operation on the other side of the world isn’t logistics — It’s leadership. Read the full article here to discover how TUMI didn’t just deliver a machine, but carried a legacy of a country that’s been mining for thousands of years —and is still writing new chapters.
